Rwanda targets mechanization of 50 percent of its agricultural land by 2020.

This is in a bid to boost agriculture while fighting poverty.

Rwandan Miniser of State for Agriculture, Tony Nsanganira, says Agriculture contributes 35 percent to GDP.

Nsanganira added that only 18 percent of agricultural land in Rwanda is mechanized, hinting of plans to increase it to 25 percent.

The ministry of agriculture underlines that low level of mechanization stalls the development of the sector.
